Presentation

The main objective of this Master's Degree in Machine Learning and Big Data is to provide highly qualified researchers with a high level of knowledge in the most promising and in-demand area of Artificial Intelligence: Machine Learning, as well as in some of its fields of specialisation such as Deep Learning.

Machine Learning techniques and algorithms instruction will be enhanced and complemented with their application to massive datasets (Big Data), for which specific technologies will be explained in order to obtain, store and efficiently process them in Cloud Computing environments.

The master's degree is focused and specialised in two major areas of knowledge: Machine Learning, perhaps the most successful and widely accepted discipline both in industry and in the field of computer science research in recent years, and techniques, methodologies and tools for processing massive datasets (known as Big Data), which represent a set of widely accepted and integrated technologies both in industry and in the academic and research world.

This Master's degree covers both supervised and unsupervised Machine Learning algorithms and bio-inspired learning models, such as genetic algorithms, swarms, neurocomputing and, especially, neural networks in their diverse configurations. In this way, courses are offered whose learning outcomes can be directly applied in the most relevant areas of Artificial Intelligence, such as: computer vision, facial recognition, event prediction, linguistic robots (bots), hoax and misinformation detection, social networks, autonomous driving, recommendation systems, speech recognition, medicine and health, and the Internet of Things (IoT), among many other domains.

The present situation of technologies related to Machine Learning algorithms, as well as the enormous advances in the treatment and processing of massive information (Big Data), have allowed the development of increasingly sophisticated intelligent systems, whose capabilities for the extraction of new knowledge from various sources of information, have generated a new social and industrial revolution that has a global impact. This degree will train future researchers in the areas of Machine Learning and Big Data, providing them with the knowledge and skills necessary for the modelling, analysis, design and implementation of future intelligent systems that combine both technologies, enabling them to apply them in real domains of high social and industrial value. An additional objective of the Master is the incorporation of those technologies in the area that our social and business environment demands over time, facilitating the incorporation of our graduates in cutting-edge research projects. Both disciplines allow us to train future researchers with a very high rate of insertion in the academic field.
